Aso-Oke Kimono Jacket #1
This kimono jacket was made by hand at our atelier from vintage West African Aso-Oke and mud cloth fabrics. The kimono silhouhette pays tribute to both West African & Japanese cultures.
Aso-Oke (pronounced: ah-SHAW-okay") is a traditional hand-woven cloth created by the Yoruba people of West Africa. Garments made from this fabric are generally worn for special occasions, befitting to Aso-Oke's English translation: "Top Cloth"; denoting the cloth of high status.
Read on our blog to learn a brief history of Aso-Oke in West Africa and why this is a high status, luxury fabric.
